My father also took a dna test and this is through his side on his maternal line and he did get DNA matched with a couple Yanceys. Don’t know if that means anything or not. The last name Yancey that I found so far is that of this “Lousia Yancey” would be my 7th great grandmother and then the surname changes to Norvell, Farrar, DeLap, Nelson then to my father Rayce Randall Diette.

Are you a Yancey descendant?

That’s what I’m trying to figure out.

If so - tell me a little about your Yancey Family

I took a DNA test and the last name Yancey comes up on my family tree on ancestry (and other sites) My 6th great grandfather is a James Norvell 1775-1855 and it list his parents as a George Norvell
1740-1829 and a “Louisa” Yancey around 1755-1831

I have found some information that suggests that a Louisa Yancey is the mother to my 6th great grandfather but there’s no solid evidence I have found yet that confirms 100% that connection. It was started that the Norvell family and the Yancey family were close. George Novell lived in Goochland County until about 1777 but had removed to Albemarle by 1779 where he took the oath of allegiance to the Revolutionary cause that year." He did not, however, serve in the Revolutionary War as some sources claim? During the 1820's, the wife who signed several deeds with him was named Louisa, surname unknown.
“ given the closeness of the Yancys to George Norvell (among other things, Yancys witnessed George Norvell's will in Albemarle), there is the possibility that Louisa was a member of this family. George Norvell's will was fated January 24th 1829”

I found your site when I hit a wall with Charles Yancey and couldn't go any farther back. The insight into the spelling and origins of the Yancey/Yancy spelling were very helpful. My particular branch seems to be odd that at some point during Alfred Moore Yancey's life the E was dropped then my great grandfather Floyd Clealon Yancey seemed to add it back.

According to my grandmother, Amanda Frazier's handwritten notes sent to me before her death, her mother Amanda Yancey was the daughter of Hezekiah Yancey, the son of Rev Robert Yancey, a descendant Charles Yancey of Virginia.

My most recent relatives were all mostly born and raised in Ballard county, KY, in small towns called “LaCenter & Bandana). I believe my great grandfather or great-great grandfather was the first to settle there from the east, I believe. My paternal grandfather was George Bartlett Yancey. He died in the early 1960’s. I would love to know more about my family heritage.

I am very interested in learning more about my family and where we have all come from. I’d love to find out the name of the first Yancey if our particular lineage to be recorded in America.
