Lewis Davis Yancey--Charles Yancey--Sarah Ann Yancey Doggett----
Thank you so much for all your research. This is the best family genealogy website I have seen. You source everything and point out questionable relationships. Unfortunately RootsWeb has been down so I have not been able to see that part. I have problems with some dates in the Charles Yancey, Caroline Powers and Sarah Ann Yancey Doggett family that I have seen on Ancestry and when RootsWeb is available maybe that will help.

My Great Great Grandfather John Yancey Criswell,Sr. was a resident of
Stephen F. Austins Third Colony in Matagorda,Texas and received a
grant of one league ( 4424 acres) for migrating from Kentucky in 1830.
I've just finished writing the final revision of my manuscript " THE
CRISWELL JOURNEY-SEE HOW WE GOT HERE" which details the
original trip, many of their troubles and some battles of which the JYC
family were involved such as the Battle of San Jacinto, The Battle of
Gonzales ( the"come and take it" cannon) and the Runaway Scrape..
You have a copy of the final revision ( # 13).

My grandfather is Carol Yancey, grandson of Charles A. Yancey of Arkansas. Charles is the grandson of Howard Jefferson Yancey, originally of Virginia, who was a descendant of Charles Nanney-Yancey, an immigrant from Wales.
I did a little bit of poking into your genealogy database and didn't find any of my ancestors right off. I did, however, find several Nanneys in the same area of Wales in the same time period as ones that I know of, and these are probably relatives of my ancestors.

My Dad's grandmother was Martha Jane Yancey Miller (his Dad's Mom). Martha's parents were William Layton Yancey and Salana Smith. Our family branches off from Charles Yancey I thru Archelaus Yancey. My dad's twin sister remembers her grandmother Martha telling her about Daniel Boone and her Yancey family. My grandma Cook took care of Martha Jane for 9 years until she died in 1947.
I really enjoy your website about the Yancey's I have shared it with my Aunt, cousins and sisters and brother. I love learning the history of my family. I want to go visit Yancey Mills. My cousins still live in Louisa.
Elaine Nelson I forgot to add my email. Sorry

We've been told that we descended from a Horatio Yancey who was smuggled into Canada in the Underground Railroad. He was apparently the illegitimate child of a slave girl (name not known) and a young son on a Yancey plantation in Virginia. He took the surname when he arrived in Montreal. We've been Gareau's since the early 20th Century when they moved to the Acadian part of New Brunswick. As a result I speak English and French fluently.
