I am beginning a book on tobacco farming after WW II. I helped on my uncle's farm(Rose Hill) in the 1950's. His name was Bill Brown and he lived near Yanceyville, NC. I would like to know of any tobacco barns and other buildings that were standing during the 1950's.

My Family's roots are in Kentucky by way of Virginia.
Very interesting stuff! I especially enjoyed the theories on name variations. People misspell my name as 'YANCEY' rather than 'YANCY' on a regular basis. I often joke with them that at one point the tribes split up over the spelling of the name and my tribe wasn't allowed to keep the 'e'. :-)

My older Brother has done significant research on our Family, but similarly got stuck at VA. I will let him know about your site and perhaps you two can exchange information on the histories you've both uncovered.

My Father 'Theodore 'Ted' R. Yancy spelled his last name Yancy, however his brother Travis 'Bud' Yancey spelled it with the 'e'. We understand our family roots come through Texas originating back to Virginia from William 'Bill' one of, four brothers who were originally indentured. Our family have some good records going back before the civil war, however after the war our people apparently dispersed from Virginia and the south to Texas and eventually to Yuma Arizona and southern California working on major water and irrigation projects pre and post depression years. My dad relocated to northern California after the second world war to marry my mother (Cleo J. Heitzmann). I am the product of that marriage.
Feel to contact me if I can further assist you in some small way.

Our whole family have been Protestant Christians over the years.
