I descend from Sarah Yancy, (born 1755 or 1760, died by-1840), who married Richard Lane in Louisa County, Virginia, on 9, August, 1781. She may be the daughter of Archelaus Yancey, (1709-1764), but I have found no source that proves the relationship.

I'm sort of deflated now in writing down the history of our Yancey line. Thought it was straight until came across this website. There is so much on your website and I have limited internet. Is there a specific place on your site where I can get the correct lineage of Nancy Ellen? I've had to delete a lot of info, like Thornton and Curtis. Very frustrating. But website is great anyway. My closest Yancey relative is my 3rd-great grandmother on my maternal side, Rachel Catherine Yancey (March 10, 1841 - Dec. 11, 1923) . Her father was David M. Yancey, Sr., and her mother was Rachel D. Medearis. The furthest I've been able to trace my Yancey lineage is to my 7th great-grandfather, Richard Yancey Sr. (1708 -1780) of Virginia.

My grandmother's mother was a Yancey; she married William Lewis Mangum. From what I found they're from Mecklenburg, but I'm not sure if that's NC or VA? Lottie might also have been known as 'Lettie' depending on the census and other records founds. Most of the family is located in and around Granville Cty, NC.
