A friend, Tonda Downing introduced me to Kathleen Ann Yancey, daughter of Thomas Marshall Yancey, Jr. and Billie Hagler in 1971 while she was a junior at North Shore HS in Houston, Texas. Many of Kathleen's family and friends knew her as Kathy but when I first met her, she asked me to call her Tesha, so that is how I'll always remember her. Tesha and I were madly in love from the moment we met. There couldn't have been a more perfect match.
Unfortunately, my job took me to Corpus late in '71 and then Dallas over the next several years and so Tesha and I only saw each other on very special occasions. We corresponded thru the mail almost daily at first but then as time went by, we started to drift in separate directions. I married another woman in 1977 and so Tesha and I didn't communicate after that. Five years later, in 1982 Tonda told me about the tragic car accident that took Tesha's life. I was heartbroken and have never been able to let her go. I've been to her grave several times and will continue to see her as time permits. Even though I have been happily married for 44 years, I still think about that beautiful young lady, I knew simply as, Tesha.
About 1980 I met one of Tesha's sisters but cannot remember her name. I knew she had an older brother named Tom but I don't know where he is today. I spoke to her mother, Billie once after her death but I cried so much during our conversation that she probably thought I was nuts.
I wrote this note hoping it would find it's way to one of Tesha's family. I guess just hoping for anyone who might have a picture of Tesha that they would be willing to share.
I still love Tesha and still feel partly to blame for her death. Until I die there will always be a place in my heart for that beautiful young soul.
RIP sweet darling!

My parents/grandparents are deceased so I'm having a hard time trying to go from memory. I remember the names Howard Yancy, a saxophonist; A.V. and his brother Willie Yancy would visit us from Chicago during the late 50s thru early 60s.
Also, all old photos were destroyed years ago.
